Introduction to SPSS
This two-day course is aimed at new users of SPSS.
Prerequisites
- Experience with running software in a Windows environment
- No prior SPSS knowledge is required.
Overview
Get up to speed in SPSS quickly and easily in this two-day course. Learn how to import data into SPSS and set it up ready for further analysis. You will perform basic statistical analyses, data checking and create simple tables and charts. This course will focus on getting you comfortable with using SPSS for Windows and ready to explore further data analysis possibilities.
The course covers
- Overview of the main features of SPSS for Windows
- Help and output navigation
- Entering data directly into SPSS data editor
- Opening spreadsheet, database and ASCII files
- Defining variables and labels for your data
- Assigning missing value codes for categories to be excluded from analysis
- Appropriate ways of summarising data for individual variables
- Computing new variables and recoding data values
- Creating and using pivot tables
- Producing and editing charts: pie charts, bar charts and scatterplots
- Useful features: syntax, journal file and the statistics and results coaches
