Introduction to Statistics
This two-day course is for people who want to analyse their data using statistical methods
Prerequisites
- Experience with running software in a Windows environment
- Knowledge of the basics of SPSS equivalent to the level of the Introduction to SPSS course
- Basic statistical knowledge equivalent to one university level course in Statistics
Overview
This course guides you through the practical aspects of statistical data analysis. Use statistics to investigate differences in group averages and between profiles of responses across different categories. You will understand the concepts behind inferential statistics and what techniques are appropriate for various situations.
The course covers
- Appropriate descriptive statistics for different types of data
- Transforming your data to aid data checking and cleaning
- Exploratory data analysis, appropriate descriptive stats & graphical output
- Choice of appropriate statistical methods
- Basic concepts behind inferential stats - drawing conclusions from sample
- Comparing groups: crosstabulations with chi-square test
- Differences between group means: the t-test and one factor ANOVA
- Post-hoc tests for ANOVA
