Building Predictive Models
This two-day course is designed for analysts and researchers with some statistical training who want to build predictive models.
Prerequisites
- Experience with running software in a Windows environment
- Knowledge of the basics of SPSS equivalent to the level of the Introduction to SPSS course
- Statistical knowledge equivalent to the level covered by the Introduction to Statistics course
- SPSS Base and Regression Models.
Overview
This course covers linear and logistic regression methodology. We will use these techniques to create predictive models and interpret the generated output. Learn how to use dummy variables and interaction terms, as well as variable selection methods and model building philosophies.
The course covers
- Scatterplots and correlation
- Fitting lines to data using simple linear regression
- Assumptions of the linear regression model
- Variable selection techniques for multiple linear regression
- Running linear regression and interpreting the output
- Including categorical predictors in regression models via dummy variable coding
- The differences between linear and logistic regression
- Running a logistic regression analysis and interpreting the output
